THE CULTURAL CENTER
The Cultural Center is a six-acre campus in the historic Titusville neighborhood of Birmingham that provides beautiful, affordable space for nonprofits, mission-driven entrepreneurs, and small businesses. The Cultural Center’s goal is to create community, opportunity, and collaboration that connects private companies, nonprofits, and the surrounding community.

BUILDING ONE - Open Now!
In 2020 Common Thread purchased the Cultural Center property and began renovating one of the two buildings on the property. Building One is 23,000 square feet and is currently home to BuildUp Birmingham, Youth Build, A4One, Step by Step, and Common Space.

BUILDING TWO - Opening Summer 2025!
Building Two is 15,000 square feet and currently home to Magic City ToolBank and TuneUp. The completed building will be the permanent office for Magic City ToolBank, EQ Event Center (a community event space), a visual arts gallery and artist studios, private offices, and coworking space.
BuildUp Birmingham
Build UP is the nation’s first and only early-college workforce development highschool to empower youth with the skills and agency to tackle poverty and urban blight. BuildUp provides low-income youth with career-ready skills through paid apprenticeships with industry-aligned secondary and postsecondary academic coursework, leading them to become educated, credentialed, and empowered civic leaders, professionals, and homeowners.
A4One
A4One is an athletic training facility and gym that exists to provide refuge, access, and community for youth and adults through athletics in and around downtown Birmingham. A4One’s state-of-the-art indoor fitness facility includes an NBA regulation basketball court, baseball batting and pitching cages, indoor soccer field, and functional fitness training equipment.
Step by Step
Step by Step is an athletic training program that develops athletes academically, mentally, and physically with the goal of ensuring each athlete knows how to overcome adversity, while learning life skills in the process of achieving their goals.
Common Space
Common Space provides private offices and office suites for nonprofits, mission-driven entrepreneurs, and businesses in Birmingham at below market rate. Common Space was designed to create avenues for collaboration between organizations, businesses, and individuals doing good in the Titusville and Birmingham community.
